Instructions for
Transporters of Hazardous Waste:
- RCRA HW imports: Notifications should be sent to EPA Region IX at least four weeks in advance prior to initial shipment. A copy should be send to the DTSC office in Glendale, CA.
- Non-RCRA Waste (CA waste only) Imports: Notification should be sent to DTSC-Glendale office at least four weeks prior to initial shipment.
- A special notification for ozone depleting substances (i.e. 1,1,1-Trichloroethane) must be sent to EPA's Stratosphere Protection Division.
- For pesticides and contaminated soil, USDA must be notified in advance.
- Initial entry packets for shipments containing hazardous materials must be submitted to the Calexico Customs Office Hazardous Material Team a minimum of 24 hours in advance. This is necessary to allow sufficient time for proper document review, commodity analysis, and arrival/examination scheduling. HAZMAT shipments arriving without prior 72 hours notification will be returned to Mexico.
- Entry packets for shipments containing hazardous materials must be submitted to the Calexico Customs Office Hazardous Material Team a minimum of 24 hours in advance.
